MLS officials headed to Nashville for announcement, a strong sign Music City picked for expansion

.....

Major League Soccer officials are coming to Nashville for what they're calling an "important announcement" Wednesday with local investors behind the city's expansion push, a strong indication that Music City has been picked for a new expansion franchise.

The league announced the event in a statement that said MLS Commissioner Don Garber, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry and Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam are slated to attend.

A media event, set for the Country Music Hall of Fame, begins at 4 p.m. and is followed by an MLS2Nashville "Thank you" reception. Taylor Twellman, a soccer analyst for ESPN, will emcee the event.

WOW!!!!!!

From YAHOO Sports...

Nashville has generally been considered the front-runner among the finalists, with an ownership group led by local billionaire John Ingram also including minority partners from the Wilf family, which owns the Minnesota Vikings. Most importantly, Nashville has secured local government approval for a new, soccer-specific stadium set to open by 2021.

It's unclear whether the new team would begin play in 2021 or start a year earlier in a temporary facility.
