I went to Galveston about a year ago, Ive lived in Houston most of my life but just rarely went downtown Galveston when Id go down to the coast. I was much more interested in birding and wildlife photography back then than cities. But anyways, Galvestons downtown is beautiful and tons of it remains unscathed by bulldozers and is very intact. Even the historic hoods around downtown are very well preserved. After Ike, the city looks much better than it did. Lots of the old homes got grants to help restore them and now look better than before the hurricane. Hopefully over Christmas I can get down there and make a thread.
