And it is said that Joseph Strauss's first Golden Gate proposal- the second one down in my above post resembled Rube Goldberg's cartoon devices- rediculously overwrought and complicated, good only as a source of mirth. Thank Isis he hired some other talent and gave us the bridge we all know and love.
