Folks, these things aren't always well received in their early stages. But this is something that could be a defining landmark for London in the future. It may not be the most "beautiful" of icons by some standards, but it is what it is.

I think the Coney Island comparison is a good one. I wish the Olympic organisers had presented it in those terms - a fun structure to ensure that the Olympic Park remains a tourist attraction, rather than comparing it to the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty.
I suppose, in time, it will take its place alongside the
Crystal Palace Dinosaurs as a curiosity on the edge of London.
