Your best bet is probably to pull data from the American Community Surveys using the Census factfinder.

But there's definitely a learning curve figuring out the new interface...
If the Census doesn't have it, every metropolitan area's metropolitan planning organization (MPO), and many states, collect data on their own, and it's probably much more reliable than anything the federal government collects. I tend to use state and local data as much as possible.
