I hope this isn't one new structure, but the permit to tear down and rebuilt the entire second half of the old Guste Projects. HANO's plans were put on hold after Katrina for this project. Around the time of Katrina half of the 3-block-long apartment units were torn down and redeveloped into mixed income individual units, and the streetgrid was reinstated in a few blocks. Ideally, this permit is the final phase to it, and not a whole new other housing project.

In the bio-district's blueprint, that tall 10-story very dated building for seniors is completely gone. Maybe that's an accurate sneak-peak for the future of this site. With the new high-rise for seniors going adjacent to the old Texaco building on Canal as part of the Iberville revitalization, perhaps the need for this dilapidated old building isn't there anymore.

Also, I saw concrete being poured into the foundation for the University Medical Complex. Looks like the complete slab will be in the next week or two.
