Maybe you should clarify (or distinguish) what you mean more specifically. Not to get into a pissing match, but St. Louis is "West of the Mississippi" as is Kansas City, which before it started annexing like crazy was very urban in its core too. St. Louis has had its prime time (population and vibrancy), and has suffered in pockets from urban decay over the years, but it is still feels very urban. I would estimate that 98% of St. Louis is still very urban built despite population loss.
And yes, these are nice photos of one of my favorite cities.
