I know of some people my age, millennial types (I know..), who've moved to BC and returned after a couple years once the luster wears off. One couple went for the mountain hiking, as was mentioned, and have since returned. Others have stayed for ~5 years and are still there.

Same could be said about people I know who've moved to Toronto. Some go for a while and come back; some have stayed.

Just thinking about this now, most of the people who have stayed away have more professional careers as opposed to trades or other career paths. Which is of course worse for Manitoba, as the higher paid jobs are staying away.
