New White Hart Lane, 61,000
As per my previous post a week ago, plans have been unveiled for the latest replacement for White Hart Lane. The two big developments are:
- Proposed capacity increased to 61,000, with Populous the architects.
- There will be a retractable pitch - this means that the NFL (who have signed a 10 year agreement to play 2 matches a year at the new WHL) will have a dedicated pitch to play on.
Some other changes include:
- The largest single tier ‘Kop’ stand in the UK with a capacity of 17,000.
- Historical Grade II listed buildings to be integrated into a new museum.
- An enlarged public space comparable in size to Trafalgar Square, this is possible due to the footprint of the stadium being reduced.
- A new hotel, community health centre and extreme sports venue including the tallest indoor climbing wall in the world.
- 579 new homes which will be built across several towers immediately to the south of the stadium.
- And a ‘sky walk’ attraction around the roof of the stadium (like that across the Millennium Dome or Sydney Harbour Bridge).
- White Hart Lane station (now a London Overground station) will be completely rebuilt with a new station entrance, ticket hall and wider platforms.
- Northumberland Park station in the east will also be rebuilt with an additional platform, removal of the level crossing and drastically improved match day & non-match day service.
- Work to rebuild the National Rail and London Underground station at Tottenham Hale are also due to progress.
Basement works are well under way, and the club is hoping to be playing at the new WHL in August 2018 prior to the commencement of the 2018-19 season. Further detail:
