It's funny -- I travel for my current job about every six weeks or so, and have been doing it now for a couple of years. Even in that short time, ABIA's gotten measurably busier. At high traffic times, the main terminal hallway is really getting tricky to navigate. It's impressive but also kind of wild.
Related: I used to think that it was obvious that any major expansion (ie. additional terminal) would want to be built around the main entrance and exit, and the parking infrastructure in the middle of the main loop of Presidential Blvd. Having seen how badly things get backed up during peak hours already, I can't really imagine potentially doubling that traffic, it would be crazy.

On your last point, I agree. I haven't flown in and out of Austin regularly for a long time so I can't speak to it, but that's definitely something that they'll need to accommodate.
