The "young people moving to retire" image is a 'Portlandia' thing from the recession. The economy definitely seems to have recovered, and according to this particular measure, is doing better than most anywhere in the nation:

I haven't had to look for a job in many years, so maybe I'm just unaware of how hard it is, but I thought I'd jump in to give a perspective other than from 'Portlandia' haha.
