Lethbridge, AB road trip - Calgary-Nanton-Fort McLeod samples

We had the pleasure of heading down to Lethbridge, Alberta this weekend to putz around and eat, drink and be merry. Our drive of about 550km from Edmonton is essentially going from mid central AB to near the US border, or about 1/2 the Province.

This kicked off our trip.

As did this - Pick it up at the Big Bend in Red Deer

Calgary

Quack! Quack! Quack!

Nanton - If you like antiquing, this is your town!

Got me some Big League Chew for the road.

Closed?

Having been twice before, I knew some of the City and recalled how their downtown was impressive but at risk from big box and a lack of reinvestment in certain areas.

Scale, street retail and a good amount of older buildings was great to see, lessons for many of us in larger cities. Sadly, Lethbridgeians need a reminder to support what they have and expand in the vacant areas to ensure a bit more continuity.

The University of Lethbridge, designed by Arthur Erickson is incredibly unique given its location on and into the hillside of the coulees.

The Lethbridge Viaduct was constructed between 1907–1909 with a total length of 1,624m.

It had just rained

Our B&B for the weekend, huge thanks to Jean at the Charles St. BB, highly recommend if you are in town.

The water tower which now houses a very overpriced underwhelming establishment that will remain nameless.

Our sushi-crawl Friday night was fun, highly recommend, but pace yourselves. Big thanks to Ryan, our host and owner of Lighthouse

We caught a live show, Colleen Brown (Edmonton represent!), at Slice.

Streetside for some veal, gum comes on top of the salad... seriously.

Telegraph Pub is a must hit if you are in town, amazing pulled pork sliders, great beer selection, nice bartender.

My chauffeur pausing to capture me for posterity.

Sat night we hit up a ukulele appreciation night, oddly fun.

Finally, we came across Umami, an incredible local grocery/kitchen/bakery that brings in goods from many countries around the world, #jealous.

Absolutely LOVE the font!

Great little apartments.

Time for a nightcap and back to reality.
