Tacoma hotel's new owner plans to create micro-units

Premier Residential bought the Merkle Hotel at 2405 Pacific Ave. near the University of Washington|Tacoma and plans to convert it to about 45 micro-units, mostly for students.
The Tacoma-based firm paid $1.04 million for the three-story 1912 building downtown, according to Brian Richardson, a multifamily investment broker with Kidder Mathews who represented Premier. Linn Larsen of Linn Larsen Real Estate represented the seller, Stephen Pfeifer.
Richardson said Pfeifer converted the hotel to small apartments, with bathrooms but without full kitchens shortly after buying it in 1981.
