You can't overestimate the influence the Camorra has in Campania. It's absolutely massive, they are involved in all levels of government.
On the other hand we cannot just let Pompei crumble. It is one of the most amazing places I've ever been to, precisely because it connects us to the everyday life of ancient peoples in a way that very few sites in the world can.
