Smile NEW YORK | 112 Edwards Street | 195 FT | 17 FLOORS

Project: 112 Edwards Street

Quote:
The New York City Housing Authority has filed plans to build a 146-unit apartment tower at 112 St. Edwards Street near Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn.

According to a permit application filed with the Department of Buildings, NYCHA is looking to construct a 17-story, 112,821 s/f residential building. The proposed tower will sit on a 11,500 s/f lot.

The application, which still requires zoning approval, comes as NYCHA faces possible funding cuts. In a statement last month, the agency said that it may receive $35 million less in federal aid for its projects. The possible cuts stem from the Trump administrations budget proposal for 2018. The plan calls for reduced allocations for transportation and housing. One of the worst-hit agencies is the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The department is facing a $6.2 billion cut under the plan. This amounts to a 13.2 percent drop from this year’s budget.

The tower, which is expected to be 195 feet high, will be near affordable housing complexes. The building will be less than a block away from the Walt Whitman Houses, a NYCHA building on Myrtle Avenue, and Heart’s Home USA at 108 St. Edwards. Design firm Marvel Architects filed the application for 112 St. Edwards.
