I disagree with everyone who dislikes the antenna. This tower has always been about structure, about a heavy, safe mass both visually and structurally. The antenna reinforces both.
If towers show off power this one also shows ingenuity. The challenges of erecting a 2000 ft structure in the middle of an active seismic zone is almost as amazing as the culture that has thrived there for hundreds of years. Anything simple and skinny would undermine Japan's safety standard and structural innovations.
