The government has taken a decision to develop smart cities around all the major ports across the country including Mangaluru

“Each port will construct one smart city. We are trying to do this. Each city will be built with an expenditure of aboutRs.3,000-4,000 crore. These will be green smart cities,” the Minister had said in February last year.

The government has planned to build wider roads, advanced townships and special economic zones, along with ship-breaking and ship-building centres, as part of smart port cities.

So this is what they are planning at Maravoor!? Though the type of projects the government has not specified I wish it to be a 'Shipping IT City' filled with Maritime Informatics, Ship & Port Engineering, Design & Technology companies so to give a IT/ITES boost to Mangaluru. Let us see whether Gurupur river is fortunate enough to have green field smart cities on both sides so near to airport and port.
Union Ministry of Shipping's deputy secretary, Abhishek Chandra, said: “The 200 projects comprise 20 projects per port and together have a US $ 6 billion investment potential.
Even home page of Mangalore SEZ weblink states
A Smart City designed to improve quality of life.
