Southeastern metropolitan "core" cities ranked by size of their respective statistical area populations: (with nationwide rankings in parentheses)
  1. Miami (7)
  2. Atlanta (8)
  3. Tampa (19)
  4. Orlando (27)
  5. Charlotte (34)
  6. Virginia Beach (35)
  7. Nashville (38)
  8. Jacksonville (40)
  9. Memphis (41)
  10. Louisville (42)

If Louisville is disqualified due to portions of its statistical area boundaries falling within Indiana, the runner-up would be:
  • Richmond (43)
I'm pretty sure Atlanta has already surpassed Miami this year for that sweet #7 Metro spot.
