I have heard in Sacramento, Nationwide Meats is the place to go. Enthusiatic thumbs up from almost everyone who's been there. I hear it's on H Street near the tracks.
In San Diego - Best burger is undoubtedly Hodad's in Ocean Beach. As Homer Simpson would say, "Ummmmmmm... Hodads's" followed by drooling.
