Whoa, wait, the city has spent the last 40 years tearing down their rich history and now after tearing most of it down they are going to rebuild it? Well, that seemed like a massive waste, but at least the mindset has changed in China wherein they actually care about their history now and don't want to replace all of it with generic commie block apartments and generic glass skyscrapers with huge open areas reminiscent of urban planning in America during the mid 1900's.

So are they rebuilding and restoring even stuff thats completely gone now? If so, thats fan freaking tastic. The hutongs in Beijing were one of the most amazing places Ive ever walked through when I lived there.
