No one is saying the slums will evaporate overnight. India is not a China where bulldozers come in the middle of the night, land seized and sold to the highest bidder and people forcibly relocated to commieblocks. The poor have rights, a voice, and a legal process. The instrument of law and of rights will necessitate the re-housing process. Not the land mafia.

So bro, sorry, but as drawn out as the legal process is, it is not infinately so. If current trends continue -- and they will only accelerate -- Mumbai will be largely slum free within the next ten to fifteen years, as gigantic an effort as it will be.


It's always strikes me as incredible how people who are so ignorant of the ground realities feel the instinctual need to disparage anything related to Indian development. Cognitive dissonance?
