Back in the 60s/70s there were quite a few monorail plans. One version was county wide (as a variation of the plans to build a BART like system for the region.) The ones that got further / actually broke ground were more like what you see in Miami or Detroit - a "people mover" that in one variation circled the financial district / south park, or in another variation was meant to take people from parking lots in City West to the office buildings in the financial district.
