The naming of London however was not in honour of the original but rather a political move. When Lord Simcoe arrived at the fork of the Thames, he decided he immediately wanted it to become the new capitol of Upper Canada. He choose the name London because he thought it would help his cause.
Remember also that Kitchener was called Berlin until WW11.
