I go back and forth on my favorites in Manhattan. I still think the Empire State is the greatest skyscraper ever built (considering when it was built). But I think nothing says "New York skyscraper" more than the Chrysler Building, even if the ESB is more famous in name. To this day, a lot of people (including New Yorkers) still don't know which is which though...
