I haven't been on many, and especially not outside the U.S. I haven't ridden it in years, and I hear it's gotten (much) worse, but my favorite for just its cleanliness - like, physically clean inside and out, and the architecture - was Washington's. I don't have much experience with the New York City Subway, but while very useful, it could do way, way better with aesthetics and architecture. BTW, while it gets a lot of guff for being dirty, I just found the Subway more worn than anything. Speaking of dirty, I was really surprised by the Paris Metro. Every station I used just about smelled like urine, and if you're a woman it would seem like hell; I saw multiple men copping feels on female classmates under the guise of the cars being too full. Wasn't a pleasant experience at all aside from some of the really cool architecture.
