In NYC, this type of development typology is rather rare, and typically restricted to parts of Staten Island, and along freeway exits on the outer fringes of Brooklyn and Queens.
I don't have a problem with it, particularly because of where it's located. I used to live not too far from there (South Ozone Park). As stated, it's built on former landfill which has waited decades to see the completion of the development plan. If there's anywhere in the City you are going to put a development like this, its here.
