Unfortunately, this is a real pipe dream. This rail line would be of little benefit to those in Portland or Boise when there are 7-8 flights a day between each city. Train fares would have to be really low to encourage people to use a train versus their own cars or purchasing an airfare. In California, a similar distance is still about $60 on Amtrak for an advanced fare. Not a great value considering how much longer a train ride is compared to driving or flying. And it isn’t an eight hour drive between Boise and Portland as quoted in that article. So some train enthusiasts and rural Oregonians aren’t going to keep a rail line going. Just being realistic...
