I may be wrong but from what I saw in person and have searched on the database, the city of Fukuoko (metro 5.5 million) only has a single tower taller than Vancouver's tallest (an observation tower at 234 meters, but the bulk of the tower tops out at around 160 meters). The second tallest is 149 meters...

Vancouver is actually overall taller than many Japanese cities, especially those similar in population. Same goes for Europe.

Vancouver's general approach to height seems to be mid range on the world scale.

It is not a tall city, but also it is not a stout city either. Despite not being extremely tall, it is still tall enough to have a "city of towers" feeling IMO.

Toronto and especially Calgary are actually really tall for their population sizes in regards to cities around the world overall. (no they are not among the super tall cities, but such cities are actually the exceptions, not the rules, and often have much larger populations than any city in Canada).
