I don't know about the trees at the podium wall either. It might make the building seem less menacing and tall. The combination of that and the hotel might make it loose some of its feeling of tallness. I guess it could do the opposite and make it seem taller, but I like looking straight up at a the sears tower from below and see a straight line of black without anything interfering.
