Oh sorry, I misread your last thing there as winter, rather than summer.

I haven't even looked for work here, but I think the local economy is quite strong.

And yeah, I know all about the flights here. In the summer, it's no problem to get a direct flight from Calgary any day, but there are none in the winter.
Last Christmas I had to go through Winnipeg and Toronto to get back here from Alberta.
There are flights from Newark though (I believe it was Continental).
