GE pushes back completion date of $200M Boston headquarters campus
General Electric Co. is breaking up the development of its Boston headquarters campus into two phases, a move that will extend construction on the 2.5-acre campus until 2021 and push back the anticipated hiring of hundreds of workers.

The multinational conglomerate (NYSE: GE) had originally planned to open in two renovated former Necco candy factories and a newly constructed 12-story office in 2018; the company later pushed back the completion date of the Fort Point campus to mid-2019.

The newest construction plan involves a two-phase approach. GE plans to finish the two brick warehouses — dubbed “North Point” — as well as improvements to Boston’s Harborwalk, public dock on the Fort Point Channel and the large green bridge connecting the brick warehouses in the first half of 2019. Meanwhile, ground-up construction of a 12-story office building — dubbed “South Point” — and the creation of public open space will start in 2019 and wrap up in mid-2021 . . . .
