Actually SMF has already surpassed SJC (San Jose) becoming the third busiest airport in Northern California, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation Bureau of Statistics
For the month ending, September 2007 SMF ranked as the 37th busiest airport (nationally) with 10.56 million people.
SJC (San Jose) was ranked 38 with 10.40 million passengers
