A few dining updates from Mike Kaylor, HSV Times

"Jason's Deli was scheduled to open this afternoon in the strip behind International House of Pancakes. Almost next door to it, Five Guys Burgers & Fries opened about two weeks ago.

Jason's first came to Huntsville at the intersection of Airport Road and Whitesburg Drive in the Village on Whitesburg shopping center last June.

Another west Huntsville dining attraction opening probably in late February will be Phil Sandoval's Mexican Restaurante. It will be in the old Rosie's building also at the corner of Enterprise and University.

It is a sister restaurant to Rosie's, named for Sandoval, who was a server when the first Rosie's opened in 1995. He will be a managing partner in this one bearing his name.

And German Food
A sign announcing Schnitzel Ranch German Food appeared recently over a building that most recently housed Fish Camp Grille and, before that, Beauregard's restaurant.

The cuisine will be authentic. Owners are giving up the comfort of their homeland and putting their trust in Huntsville's appetites. In fact, Renja Schmitt, her husband and their two teenage children haven't yet arrived in the United States.

"This is actually a German family that's coming here on an investor visa," says Leonard Leach, their real estate agent with the Martha Webster team of Remax. "It really is a very fascinating story."

Leach first worked with the Schmitts in their search for a home here. He later helped them find a restaurant location.

He says the family is actually bringing a camera crew along to show other Germans what it's like to take on such an endeavor. The family also considered Atlanta and Nashville, he says, but finally settled on Huntsville."
