The transformation of the City West Sacramento and Sacramento into a
bustling metropolis has finally began. Like what Mayor Cabaldon said
this is the just the opening salvo. Major construction will soon be
underway on
Both sides of the river. Township 9 and the Sacramento Powerhouse
Center has announced that groundbreaking for these two projects is
just around the corner. West Sacramento’s West Capitol Commons broke
ground last week. A massive project with almost 400 4 story units plus
a mix use building. The lot that used to be a Raley’s stadium event
parking is now being graded and excavated. Another big project that
could break ground before the end of the year is the 6 story mix use
Bridge Home apartment complex. A 78 unit building with two levels of
parking garage and ground floor retail. Town homes will follow around
Spring 2013 to be built around the brand new park. These 3
developments plus the almost sold out Ironworks by Regis Homes alone
will have more than 1000 housing units. The whole area will have tons
of foot traffic considering its close proximity to the downtown area,
old Sac and Raley’s Stadium. High-rises are also coming to West
Sacramento’s Bridge district. The first class 350 unit Marriott
International Hotel and convention center and the long stalled
Riveredge Towers by Unger are just finalizing its plans and should
start construction at the end of 2013. Phase 2 of West Capitol Avenue
streetscaping and the proposed Pioneer Bluff bridge is also moving
forward. Pioneer Bluff is the area of the Barge Canal that is closest
to the Sacramento River. Money to be used to dredge the West
Sacramento Port will instead be used to build this bridge which is
also part of the trade corridor. This infrastructure will open the
Pioneer Bluff/ Stone Lock District for developers.

Earlier this year I posted that the sacramento needs around 35k rental units and because of this we should soon have a building boom. Some developers must be reading our forum. We should have a dense urban jungle in about 3 or four years. Exciting times for West Sacramento and downtown Sac.
