New Haven, CT officials ink 35-year Union Station deal: ‘It’s a game-changer’

"NEW HAVEN — U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., called the new 35-year deal between the city, state and New Haven Parking Authority to secure and guide the future of historic Union Station “a game-changer” that will be “a platform for transformation” for decades to come.

Gov. Ned Lamont, who joined Mayor Justin Elicker, state Department of Transportation Commissioner Joseph Giulietti and others for the agreement’s signing, said that in recent years, “I think we’ve learned how important railroad service is to our future” — and called New Haven “the transportation hub of our state.”

U.S. Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro, D-3, who cut her teeth trying to keep another big transportation project — Interstate 91 — from cutting her Wooster Square neighborhood in half, said it was nice to see one being used to reconnect neighborhoods, in this case, the Hill to Downtown..."
