Ahmedabad: Smoke detected in Smart City plan

Ahmedabad: It turns out that life in the proposed Smart City of Ahmedabad may be perilously flammable. According to research carried out by a CEPT University student, fire emergency services in the city lack advanced equipment and face staff shortage. Moreover, the non-strategic locations of fire stations increase response times in emergencies.

According to the study, on the fire hazard scale of 1 to 10, Ahmedabad scores 9, which means "very high" risk. M F Dastoor, the chief fire officer of the AMC, says that staff shortage is indeed a problem, but doesn't accept the contention that advanced technology will enhance the efficiency of fire emergency services.
