The west wall the Magee House (1881), a historic building in Ottawa's Hintonburg neighborhood collapsed on July 24th. The City proceeded to demolish the entire s/w corner while engineers looked into the viability of saving the rest. The City has now determined that it needs to come down. They hope to save some of the stone to incorporate into a new building of similar look and proportions.

Article on Heritage Committee's demolition approval, along with a bit on another building that partially collapse, and later half demolished by order of the City for safety reasons. Ottawa is failing when it comes to enforcing heritage protection.
