Really, 1,500 officers are suddenly going to start leaving for Calgary, Red Deer and Grande Prairie? Good luck to them with that. And they'll be mighty disappointed when they see their increased pay packets are eaten up by increased housing costs there vs. their exurban lots in Oakbank or wherever they all live.

The funny thing is that the city bought the argument made above, as if there wasn't a near limitless supply of reasonably fit and intelligent 18-30 year olds ready and willing to step up if the current complement of officers took off for somewhere else to earn more money. Cops aren't exactly doctors where there is a limited number minted each year and each jurisdiction has to fight for them... you can be a cop with a high school diploma, for cripes sake.
