Entirely valid. One point which is important, however, is that a lot of young men fled Syria because they would have been forced to fight for the regime if they stayed. I know this was the case of a guy about my age who left Syria to study in Hong Kong, but once his student visa ran out, he faced the very real possibility of being forcibly enrolled in the Army on the wrong side of a civil war.
