Driving around Downtown Manchester, NH

Manchester (pop. 115,644) is the largest city in New Hampshire. Built on the Merrimack River, Manchester was once the domain of Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, a textile company that, during the 19th and early 20th Centuries, built massive complexes of red brick mills along the banks of the river. Just like many other industrial cities in the northeastern U.S., the mills closed down in the 1920s, sending the city into a sharp economic depression.

These photos are from a brief drive around Manchester's downtown earlier this week.
