the whole MediaSpree-issue is much more complex than it seems.
the simple way:
the problem is, that the planned towers and midrises would make the rents EXPLODE as they did in other new developed areas.
And that would take place in districts which are actually known for their quite low rents.
So it´s just logical that the inhabitants do protest against the plans.
another issue is that such an area is not needed (yet). i am sure that most of the bureau-areas would not be rented for long since so many new office buildings are built in central Berlin. the same would happen to the flat and appartment buildings in my opinion. so people think that the money better should be spent on something more senseful.

the poster reads:

City restructuring at the Spree banks in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Mitte, Treptow:
Who wants MediaSpree?

Drown the MediaSpree!

! low rents instead of high profits !
! public parks instead of headquarters !
! parking areas instead of office buildings !
! alternative education and arts instead of commercials and consume !
! trees instead of billboards !
! free public transport instead of car-chaos !
