Life
Native Angeleno Mildred Younger (1920-2006),
with a great hat and a great Miracle Mile backdrop.
Younger has an interesting story, if not exactly noir.
From her
Times obit (
http://articles.latimes.com/2006/nov...l/me-younger16): "Younger was a graduate of Los Angeles High School and a debate champion at USC, where she earned a degree in art history in 1942.... She ran for office... in 1954, narrowly losing her bid to become the first woman in the state Senate. She subsequently was a successful radio and television host but was sidelined in 1958 when she lost her voice after a bout with polio and a car accident. She did not recover her voice for 17 years."
Btw, it seems you can't get away from that other L.A. Mildred: The first
pic to appear when Googling "Mildred Younger" is this:

(The caption begins: "When Mildred's younger daughter Kay....")
