The Central Business District is referred to as Uptown Saint John due to its position at the top of a hill. There's never been a "downtown", though the term could be mistakenly applied to Portland Valley (a neighbourhood that doesn't really exist anymore, shout out to the amazing Lost Valley Blog but this has never been the case.
