The new hospital in The Woodlands and its Medical Center tower are just the beginning of what will be a major investment for the Houston hospital system. Marc Boom, Houston Methodist president and CEO, said in a statement that the hospital system plans to invest more than $1 billion in expanding and replacing its facilities in the Houston area over the next three years.

Separately, the new patient tower at the Texas Medical Center, which will cost about $540 million to build, will replace patient beds in Houston Methodist Hospital’s original Main building and add advanced heart and neurosurgery operating rooms. It is also expected to be completed in 2017.

The inpatient tower next to Houston Methodist Hospital will accommodate 390 beds — including 102 intensive care beds — expanded operating suites, hybrid suites and a dedicated cardiology floor with 14 interventional catheterization labs. The new tower will include high-tech operating rooms that will expand the hospital’s ability to provide image guided heart and brain procedures.
