Do you have any source for this statement? I realize that there was a bit of a rally for the media, but I see absolutely no evidence of widespread opposition to this project.
Quite the contrary actually. The general sentiment that I have heard is that the opponents are plumbing new depths of obstructionism in Ottawa - perhaps not as low as the people in Orleans trying to block school buses from using their street, but at least flirting with that level of notoriety.
This is a children's playground we are talking about. If you didn't know what the project was about and listened to the quotes from the opponents, you would think that the mayor was single-handedly proposing a multi-lane freeway through virgin forest using money earmarked for underprivileged children.
