The campus of the university is surrounded by ghetto neighbourhoods where have tons of shabby apartments. It is also considered as one of dangerous areas at night. Therefore, I would suggest you to live in the north because students who are attending the university all live in the north side of Chicago.
The rents in the north side will be a little bit higher though.
No, I have no contacts there anymore but you can contact free apartment rental agency to help you find an apartment that fits your requirements and needs. I asked them to help me find my apartment when living in Chicago. they have a really nice service and I like it a lot. Below is the info.
