I have an on-going list of about 300-400 restaurants, bars, and cafes in Toronto that I like or that I would like to try. And in honour of the late Anthony Bourdain, I've been inspired to pick out some of my favourite places to eat that I'd take someone if they were here on a layover for a few days: (with lazy descriptions included)

Pinky's - cool Vietnamese place:

Oddseoul - cool Korean-Philadelphian place:

Patois - cool Chinese-Jamaican place:

Rhum Corner - nice little Haitian place from Jen Agg of Black Hoof fame:

Hanmoto - chill late-night Japanese place:

Imanishi - cozy place for Japanese home-style cooking:

La Palma - higher-end, but really good classic Italian fare:

Ryu's Noodle Bar - best ramen I've had outside of Japan (and still better than a lot of the ramen I've had in Japan):

Bombay Chowpatty - Mumbai streetfood staples inside a Bollywood video store:

Bar Raval - exceptional food in a stunning space:

Bar Isabel - it's good:

Pray Tell - great cocktails, inventive snacks, and a lovely space:

Pai - best Thai place:

Kanpai - Taiwanese snack bar:

Pizzeria Libretto - still the best pizza around:

El Trompo - cheap, straightforward, good traditional tacos - and a nice patio too:

Allwyn's - my favourite for classic Jamaican takeout, in an oddly-located strip mall on the North York-Scarborough border:

El Gordo Market - not quite a restaurant, but a rotating assortment of small, mostly Latin American, mostly good food stalls in Kensington:

Downsview Merchant's Market - a sprawling maze of a market, with a classically Torontonian mix of all sorts of different food:
