Menino should have let Transnational happen. As far as the
others go, well other cities are building, so what are you waiting for?
Although I agree with you completely on these developments, Transnational had Menino's (and much of the city's) support. Ironically enough, it was canned by the FAA, who didn't want a supertall so close to Logan Airport. The height limit at that site is now 850', which is... respectable.

South Station's developer, Hines, keeps saying they are just waiting for better market conditions, but we'll see. I don't know what's up with Congress St. however.

However, Boston has this tower and the Copley Place Tower (also at 625') presumably getting underway in the next year or so, and there is talk that Menino will not run for mayor again in 2013 due to health issues. Boston is in a bit of a boom for smaller highrises- there were a lot of cranes around town this summer- but maybe soon we will make some strides in terms of buildings with larger impacts.
