On health tourism or Health Cruise or Wellness Cruise, it is not clear whether cruise vessels can carry people from countries surrounding Arabian Sea though many patients from countries like Pakistan visit metropolitan cities of India for treatment. Earlier smart city proposal of developing 'Health City' near Kunjathabail was so ideal for receiving patients from both airport and seaport assuming Mangala Corniche road was also developed around Gurupura river. Of course e-visa facility at both seaport and airport are also important to achieve this goal.

The following news is on Indian Medical Tourism.

Pharma industry to reach $55 billion in three years, says ASSOCHAM-IITTM study
Quote:
The study reveals that in the first 6 months of 2016 alone, close to a lakh foreign tourists arrived on a medical visa thereby making it a very lucrative market. The top most countries availing medical visa were Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Maldives, Republic of Korea and Nigeria.
Quote:
The majority of the patients coming to India for treatment are from the the Middle East, Africa, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Maldives, Pakistan, Bhutan and Sri Lanka for its expertise in cardiac and orthopaedic procedures, in addition to other specialised areas like neuro-surgeries, cancer treatment and organ transplantation. India is also attracting medical tourists looking for the traditional system of medicine available in India, noted the study.
Quote:
Holistic medical services in India, such as Unani, Yoga, Meditation, Ayurveda, and Homeopathic treatments (AYUSH) also serve as a huge attraction.
Since now Mangaluru is connected to New Delhi through Jet Airways there could be a possibility to attract medical tourist if Mangaluru can offer cheaper treatment compared to one available in mega metro cities to nullify flight cost. But how many of patients arrive through rail? Mangaluru should have long distance speed boat or cruise connectivity to Sri Lanka, Lakshadweep etc for two way tourism. Mangalore should also have programmes to attract adventure sailors. These sailors may like to visit islands like Saint Marys and probably Malpe port or old port if they have plans for medical vacation on their way.

That would be spending Rs.1,000 crores for refurbishing the aircrat carrier. If private investment can be attracted from any undivided DK NRI this is possible. What about converting a part of 13-storey warship as a health & delux hospitality city? Landing helicopter or connecting to high speed boat all are possible.

Medical tourism: KMC treated 100 international patients in last 10 months
Quote:
Over the past 10 months, KMC catered to over 100 international patients arriving from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Kenya, United Kingdom and the United States.

Apart from providing world class medical assistance, the hospital also has a dedicated specialized team to look into all aspects of patient care management - pre-arrival requirements like VISA, appointments, accommodation, airport pick-up and drop facilities.
Is there any startup dedicated to to provide assitance to international patients & supply patients to hospitals? Then other hospitals can also register with this startup to serve international patients. If such a service available and which enables Mangaluru hospitals to offer economical medical solution compared to the parched city then lot of patient may show interest in getting treated in coastal region than the parched city and by doing this successfully the coast will end up saving a small but a considerable amount of water, which was used for medical treatment, for the people in the parched region.

India's first 3-D Planetarium to open in Mangaluru in Dec
State to go starstruck by 2021
Quote:
The second planetarium of the state is set to open in December this year at Pilikula Regional Science Centre (PRSC), Mangaluru, which is touted to be the most sophisticated planetarium in the country.

It will be the largest one in the state, equipped with an 18-metre dome, and the only planetarium to have a complete hybrid projector system with the traditional electromechanical/optical as well as the digital 2D and 3D projection capability.

Which means, images cast on the dome screen will not only be sharper but also be capable of giving the spectators a feeling of actually being among the stars, said officials of the Karnataka Science & Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS). The society is the body that supports the department of science and technology (DST) in implementation of its policy initiatives, and is the nodal agency for channelizing funds for science projects and coordinating DST programmes across Karnataka.

Let Mangaluru become hub for Lakshadweep Tourism, 2

Summa: Execution of Rs. 65 crore project is important to improve connectivity between Mangaluru and Lakshadweep. For construction of well equipped jetty and other basic facilities for cargo and cruise ships visit Karnataka government has handed over 8000 square meters at Old Port. (Lakshadweep Cruise). Due to administrative issues project execution is getting delayed. Rs. 65 crore project includes berthing facility for big ships, ferry, tourist lounge, warehouse for goods, concrete road and other facilities. Society for Promotion of Nature Tourism and Sports - a society under Lakshadweep administration - is constructing Rs. 20 crores Guest House at Old Port. As Lakshadweep is a restricted zone there is a need to have Lakshadweep Secretariat Office in Mangaluru to get permit to visit it.

Tourism will be developed in four sectors

Summa: The central government wants to develop district for religious, beach, medical and educational tourism. Efforts will be made to include Pilikula under Smart City project.

The central government should declare Bantwal, Mangaluru & Udupi Taluks together as 'Medical Investment Region' or 'Tourism Investment Region' in same manner as PCPIR. In case of religious tourism along with pilgrimmage tourism there is scope for developing spiritual tourism like in the parched region (which is famous for spiritual gurus like Nithyananda, Sri Sri, Chinmaya etc and earning good foriegn exchage through spiritual tourism). Udupi, Moodbidri and Shringeri should be developed as study centres for Dvaitha, Jaina, Advaitha school of philosophies so to produce Spiritual Gurus of international standard in respective schools. As far as combining spiritual tourism with cruise tourism is concerned it depends upon how many of visitors opt for Spiritual Cruise similar to Health Cruise or Wellness Cruise. And also need good Hatha Yoga Gurus.
