"We have received proposals from various investors, who are ready to invest on LPG bottling, steel industries, water treatment, pharmaceutical manufacture, apparel, wellness and boat club. Proposals for investment to the tune of Rs 725 crore have already been received and more investors are expected to take part in the convention. In tourism sector, six investors have agreed to invest Rs 59 crore. While IOCL will be investing Rs 100 crore, investments worth Rs 250 crore each are expected in pharma and wellness and tourism sectors," deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim said.

In addition, he said, MRPL, Ruchi Soya and other mega industrial sectors are also gearing up for their expansion proposals. While Ruchi soya has plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore for their plant expansion, MRPL will also be expanding its unit. Meanwhile, a pharma park will be set providing infrastructure for pharmaceutical manufacturers to set up units in Mangaluru, he added.
Squent is expanding

So, Pharma sector is going to grow in Mangalore. Now it is essential to get National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) proposed for Karnataka also along with Pharma Park in Mangalore and create good startup environment.

Mangalore can also reach into understanding with other national institutes like IICT, IICB for startup guidelines. Mangalore can also focus on encouraging startups in wearable medical devices area & telemedicine. For cross-discplinary researches & startups it should create socializing environment (socilaizing website, seminars, etc) so that people from different disciplines interact with each other, share their ideas and form teams.

KSSIDC plans to set up more industrial estates in Dakshina Kannada

DC Ibrahim said that revenue department officials have been asked to find suitable land for the setting up of new industrial estates in the district. "We will check possibility of sanctioning land available at Badaga Yekkaru in Mangaluru taluk and in Puttur," he added.
Is this Industrial Estate for downstream industries of MSEZ? Otherwise this would have been prefered site for Polymer-Plastic Park as location is in vicinity of MSEZ.
